History

The Cherry Tree Home Bakery

was first started by Norman and Isobel Charles, in September 1970. Both came from Cookstown in Co. Tyrone, where Isobel had served her time in a local bakery.

They moved to Fermanagh when Norman was given a job as farm manager on an estate, just outside the village of Tamlaght. Isobel had a job in a nearby factory, but at night she did some baking for a local shop.

In time the demand got to high, and it was either all or nothing.

So in June 1970 the premises on the Main Street of Lisnaskea was bought. It was very badly run down and needed extension and repair.

Many long nights and early mornings later the bakery opened. It took hard work to put it there, but it had to work.

Now, three children and 34 years later, Norman and Isobel are retired, but you’ll still see Isobel around. Nothing is right until it passes her seal of approval.
